series 3 owner with a strange question

Hi there landy folk ive had my series 3 for comin up to 12 months now and ive searched for an answer all over the place with no luck, it seems that my passenger front wheel sits further under the arch than the drivers side it drives perfect I use it everyday it just looks abit strange problem is everythin looks strait any help would be great even if u say its normal just so I know

New leaf spring needed.

I take it up mean further 'up' in the arch?

I think ive described this fault wrong what I mean is its like the axle isnt central in the chassis its like its over a couple of inch but everything looks ok up on a ramp

I'd say one of two things:

Axle not central (measure from U bolts out to hubs and compare measurements)
Or
Different wheels (offset). Before I replaced my wheels I realised the two front ones were deeper dished.

check your wheel rim widths and offsets

landrover wheels at a casual glance can look identical but there are i think five different pressings giving different offsets and widths (not to mention the possibility of you having a wheel fitted from a completely random van or trailer from the 50s)

the most basic thing to check is the rim width which can be 5", 5.5" to 6.5" wide

Ill try swapping the wheels left to right see if it moves my problem

Check no one has put a spacer on one side too

i think the thoughts on the leaf spring was that one may be older than the other and so may be sagging lower. chack the lift shackles are the same length either side too.

Just measure them....somewhat easier than swapping them about to see.

You'll only swap the problem to the other side anyway if thats what tis.

Series 1 axles are essentially the same as S2 ones but are 1.5 inches narrower. Its not uncommon to repair faults at the axle ands (swivels etc) by swapping a whole axle end complete with half shaft. Perhaps you have a S1 one on the 'narrow' side. The extra length is between the spring and the flange supporting the swivel (ie round ring with 6? 3/8 BSF bolts) and is quite easy to spot.
