Hi all,

Re Turbo wastegate control valve

Whe does this operate, and how can you check it?

Mine's doing nothing, doesn't move when blipping throttle, or when holdinnd steady at about 3000 revs, or any point in between

Theres no movement on the arm at all

Is this normal, or is it siezed?

Thanks

Gordy

you wont see anything happening as there is not enough pressure by just revving the engine. Get hold of the top pipe from the intercooler and inlet and rev the engine you should feel the pipe go hard. This will tell you whether you have pressure or not but still wont tell you whether the turbo is ok.The only real way to see whats happening is to fit a boost gauge.Dont forget that its a Land Rover and so its never going to pull your arms off when the turbo does come in.

youd need to rev it high to check waste gate to open ,but it will theres no difference in pressure stood or moving ,on a tdi been stuck or needing a high pressure to open is no bad thing

When I got my D2 it would not rev over about 2900 rpm, this turned out to be a siezed waste gate. Tried the wd40 and pliers to free it which worked......for a day. This continued until I used Ambersil Amberglide on it, which is Teflon (ptfe) based, I used this twice on it while sliding it forwards and backwards with the mole grips. And I have not had a problem since, more power and I can rev it to where I want now!!!!

i dont recommend to check it like in the video with the arm attached cos you could ruin the diaphragm...you better undo the two nuts which are holding the valve then move the arm together with it to see if it's sticking or not.
