Actually James the rubber is loose in the metal part
how is it damped ?? Is it an oil filled part or just rubber in the metal surround ??

Ah james
seems there is a misunderstanding
My doubt concerns the bottom engine steady, tie bar thingy..............
not the flywheel

so i was successful in putting the pics up .......:)

there are some "coloured" marks on it but its not blue as in super overheated.

its smooth too

Maybe next time then :D

lets hope so - anyway the job of changing the clutch now holds no fears - as long as i have access to a hoist
May well install an I beam in the garage for the future joys of freelander ownership :)

youre right James although i started doing this kind of stuff with my MK1 escort

One of these days im going to have to do the clutch and dmf on my 5 series - its the original at 450,000 kms !!

Hi Digby, im presently halfway thru tryin to extract the IRD on same vehicle....TD4 04plate. Struggling tho with that upper `forward` IRD bolt. Bought an electric impact wrench today, and enough 1/2 extention bars to reach the other end of my garage! but, even after lowering the whole engine, i still cant get on this bolt!! grrrr
Any tips?
Thnx, Mick

Hi Mick

I cant remember exactly how i got to the different bolts but i dont remember having any particular difficulty.

once you have actually found the bolts on top of the IRD (gbox end) then i think a regular socket with "normal" extension bars is enough - could be that you need enough extensions to put the rachet wrench the other side of the IRD output flange that goes to the propshaft though

sorry but i cant remember the details and dont remember having to lower the engine to remove the IRD either

did you remove the exhaust front pipe yet - that may help

good luck

digby

I know im digging up a really old thread here digby, but did you have to have the IRD removed to get the gearbox out ??

Thanks
Josh

Hi Josh

I followed the procedure in the RAVE manual which involves removing the IRD.

I have read that its possible to leave the IRD in place and remove the gearbox directly BUT i guess that getting it back on would be more complicated due to aligning all the shafts........

Taking the IRD off was not such a problem - a few bolts, a drive shaft

Do you have RAVE ?? if not there are a bunch of links on here somewhere to download it

Have fun :)

Thanks for the quick response Digby I didn't think I'd get a reply with it being a old thread... I read somewhere too it's possible to leave it in place I have it all stripped down with a 100 thousand bolts laying around for some reason the gearbox started to come but something on the bottom seems to be holding it.. I have a freelander one rave but it doesn't cover td4. Suppose I better find one which covers td4.

Thanks mate!
