That water filter looks superb, I came across a S3 109 in the middle of the Sahara and all 3 on board had amoebic dysentery and OMG you don't want that, same sh1t coming out of both ends !!!

**** NO! I do not want that.

Filtration kit looks good and puri tabs for back up,
BMP42 advised a S2a fuel tank under drivers seat,
Grills (not Bear) and locks defo,
KA-BAR machete and Opinels for the small stuff.

This forum is the best, when you start actually reading through all the past posts it's mad the info that's on here.
Just got Fully Comp for my 89' 110 all paid up for.. £86.25!!! And that came from searching insurance on here.. Gocompares best last night was £432.

I have a condor golok machete it has done me 12 years of service and still looks new I also have A gerber gator axe with a knife. I never on ops or exercises without them.

Never been a fan of ka-bar don't get me wrong there good I just never liked them.

However 1 I would never recommend is the Army issue tree beater it is proper ****.

I just checked both of those on Amazon, they look excellent and I think they both come in less than my KA-BAR but I did buy from Survival Aids which seems a bit over priced now!
I like the KA-BARs design, it's short and to the point!
Would definitely go for the Gerber axe combo, good reviews for it.

Would want a sankey too, just don't want to look too Forces when travelling.

And finances!

This trips defo gone back a year but that's only due to the good advice given here.. sound of everyone to give their experience which in turn gives me confidence. Thank you all;)

combat fighting ax is a treat does a good job as a multi functioning tool

About as intimidating as you can get bar staring down a barrel.

But I would like to get through this trip without axing anyone to death.
I've backpacked on my tod some places that could be a bit hairy, being aware is a bloody good defence.. just because I'm on holiday doesn't mean the scumbags are, but if I'm going down then at least one of them's coming with me.

1st thing new tubeless tyres , and carry tubeless repair kit , travel light not heavy , as prev mention series 2a tank under driver seat better than jerry cans , facet pump to pump to main tank at rear . KISS principle ! Good shocks , better double up standard than fancy singles. Check rad , get it rodded out if in good condition , as heat will do the headgasket . Good service , best DIY or someone you can defo trust to do properly! Carry a couple of cahnges of fuel filtersesp . fit sedimentor if not already fitted . HTSH

Thankyou everyone, all good info, thankyou and keep 'em coming.

I've got an amazing mechanic who's been working on Landys for years who's showing me the ropes, he's one of the seniors on here, proper decent fella, he gave me credit at his unit last year when I was being poor and having to rely on a vehicle for work.

Right now to search the spare tank.. would I earth tank or is that asking for trouble?

Tubeless trye repair good for puncture on the tread, but a slice in the side wall a puncture kit may not fix, where a tube installed could get you out of the bush to find replacement tyre. cheap insurance if you ask me.

Just out of interest have you decided on a route yet i.e. west coast or middle east. though in a year things can change politically speaking.

I haven't owl, not at all. All this came about from seeing Ihana website, it just looked like a brilliant idea, hard work but fun too.

For now I'm going to concentrate on on the preparation as I'm going nowhere with out that!

It would be worth checking out some overland sites and try and buddy up with others doing the same trip and work together and a French speaker is an asset. We didn't have much trouble with the vehicles but plenty at boarders and on occasion with military that we came across. I was once on my own going to a market in Algeria to get some veg to take back to the camp and was stopped by a military jeep thing and I ended up with me face in the dirt and a gun at the back of my head.

Sorry, not very clear of me! Do I need to electrically earth the tank (the ones I've seen appear metal) regards static/sparks inside the tank, I know diesel wont explode easily but is it normal to earth additional tanks?

Travelling with some like-minded fellows seems good, always up for meeting a new bunch.
