Can I use the spare wheel mount from the rear of my D1 and a fecking huge hammer to make a swing away wheel carrier for my 110?

Take a good looking burd, in case you run out of fuel..........or get a puncture..............purely for medical reasons of course..

Yourself if you are in poo state and it hits the fan you will be fooked.

Fitness is key to a lot of things.

And learn some bush craft.

11 year ago when I done the all arms commando then 8 for all arms para why well why not lol

I had it easy, I was borrowed for a Belize posting when they thought I was an HVAC fitter, paperwork **** up and I ended up in the QMS getting fat!! Was not 59 just borrowed.

Well I used to drive around the Aussie outback (including through bull dust and what not) without a snorkle or any dust-prevention, and in fact you didn't see all that many vehicles with them.

The most important things were the shocks/springs (so you didn't rattle the vehicle to bits), having a spare tyre or three (plus a tyre repair kit), and plenty of diesel (but I just threw my jerry cans in the back loose). I'd say the tyres are the most important, then fuel, then suspension.

Also, if I were going to spend a little bit of money on jerry can holders, I'd rather spend a lot of money on an auxiliary fuel tank instead :p

I would go with locks on everything and mesh on the windows, thieving bastids. Don't put much weight on the roof rack I couldn't open the doors after a few K on the rough tracks and had to straighten the roof. A sankey is a good idea for the heavy stuff. Oh the best thing to take is a quality water filtration kit, the sh1ts over there ain't like the sh1ts over here but you probably know that already.

I've settled on the tyres, 235/85/16 Insa TT. Then Bearmach HD springs but not lifted. The mushrooms snorkels already fitted so can stay. With the aux-fuel tank do you lose internal space?

I don't believe internal space is effected by most aux tanks, no. But they are quite expensive to buy and install!

Every suggestion seems to be going on the list.. the price.. ^^^! I can afford one mod a month. Picking it up from the UK in a week now, I'll return 6months after that to get new MOT but can order an item a month and have them there waiting for us. Liked the filtration kit suggestion Owl, thanks all.

In that case, take everything you would if you were to head off wild camping in the back of beyond. Katadyn Pocket are meant to be good filters, iodine backup, good knife, fire steel, kelly kettle, trianga stove, load of meths, paracord, firstaid stuffins, big bottle of deet, tyre pump, torch, compass, binocs, camera. God I could go on and on.. and usually do :D

I don't have the kettle or stove, my first aid kit is capable upto and including transfusions and amputations.. love a bit of first aid. Will use a spotting scope instead of binos and want a NVG monocular for scary moonless nights + solar charger. I know what you mean of the list, looking at all this I think the trips gone back a year at least:eek:

Haha. All you really need is a survival kit incase it hits the fan and a way to get some cash. Everything else is just luxury or can be sorted with a hammer. (I have never gone to SA!)

Well I have alway found a survival kit is personal as one persons need is not the same as another's

However a grab bag should have the basics

Shelter.
A means to start fire.
A good knife.
Water purification. Life saver bottles are frigging awsome we used them in afgan it can purify any water you put in it.

That water filter looks superb, I came across a S3 109 in the middle of the Sahara and all 3 on board had amoebic dysentery and OMG you don't want that, same sh1t coming out of both ends !!!
