Dya know if the ferry were still there , ya could just get on the ferry come over here and I'd do it for you .

Are you disabled ? If so someone from here might offer to come round and sort it out for you . :tea:

Lack of tools, space and know how prevent me from doing it :(

For the price of getting the job done you could but a a decent set of tools to do the job your self .

You will have the tools there for the next time you have to do something . If you have to buy more tools the next time you will be able to do even more .

:violent:

No, im not disabled thankyou. I was just asking advice off people on the forum.. Thats what forums are about isnt it? If you dont understand it or cant do it, you ask for help?

I get your point about buying the tools - but surely a jack, axle stands, torque wrench and decent socket set will come to more that an hours labour in the garage?

And as stated, i have a narrow drive covered in chippings, and no garage.. I cant even drive it outside my driveway, as its just a muddy, rutted lane for just over half a mile.

Thanks anyway though.

Hi Rhodie,

Thanks for this - i was unaware the job was doable without the landy jacked up??

Can you tell me if you did it this way,

The tools you used to do the job, how long it took and how difficult it is?

Ive watched a few youtube clips on it.. but all have the freelander on ramps or axle stands, and none seem very clear..

Thanks,
Andrew

I just lay under mine I used a std socket set to remove vcu 4 bolts you will need E spanners size 10 I think to remove prop from Ird and another spanner 17mm I think to
Separate vcu from property when it's off
It a 20 min job

It's a piece of **** mate. I just took mine off yesterday. Just run the front and on to some concrete blocks if you've got no ramps (make sure there concrete and safe), you'll need two lengths of blocks so you can move the landy back about a foot to get to all the bolts on the prop. There's only 14 bolts altogether, and you don't need torx sockets either, as a slim ring spanner will suffice to hold them whilst the other end is a hex which you can use a ring spanner on, in fact unless you have good quality slim sockets, you won't get them on the front end torx bolts as there very close to the joint. As said previously, about 20/30 minutes and well worth doing yourself so you know how to put it back on later and save more money, also as mentioned previously Hippo's thread is brill. Go for it!

Why are you taking it off - I see from your profile you tow a horse box and horses - taking off the prop will drastically affect the pulling experience - loadsa wheelspin when towing etc.

If its a VCU get a replacement from Bell Engineering - less £300 fitted.

Angelo,

I only want to take it off to see if it eliminates the grinding noise thats resinating through the car.. Thought that if it vanishes wuith the prop off, the problem is obviously fsomewhere from the propshaft back?

Been to my trusty local indy today.. He said aside from my diff mountings needing renewing, (which he thinks may cause the problem?) he cant find anything wrong?? Simetimes the sound seems to becoming from the left rear of the car, other times it seems to resinate through the whole cabin and you cant tell what direction its coming from..

He checked all my wheel bearings again, but re reckons they are fine.. but as said in previous posts, the grinding (which sound similar to pads grinding against discs) starts at about 5-10 mph then when i get to about 60mph, i get definate wheel bearing drone.. surely this is connected??

Im toying with the idea of just doing both rear wheel bearings if the noise stays :smokin:
