Just out of interest, do I need to remove the fuel tank when replacing the boot floor and sides, or can I get away with just covering it?

When replacing the floor last year, I used the consequent massive hole to my advantage.

Fuel tank was cleaned.
Tank cradle removed, taken back to bare metal and re-painted .
Fuel tank strap replaced. (any idea how hard it is to find a solid one of those?!)
As much of the chassis as I could get to was wire wheeled down to bare metal and re-painted.
Fuel sedimenter stripped down and cleaned.

Depends how far you wanna go, I guess.

ill admit having done a couple now although the are cheap ****e and will only do one floor the spot weld drills from screwfix or machine mart do make a differance
or a 12 mm hole saws good as well
although next own i do ill borrow works rotobroach

I've just been quoted £200 to weld in a floor, which I have already bought, and a body mount.

I may have to invest in a welder!

then your a cock. 200 aint expensive for this job. especially if your a novice welder. youll do more harm than good
while its slightly insulting being called a cock, £200 is a fair price for boot floor replacement. what you need to know beforehand, is how much extra work is required to get the boot floor to fix to summat reasonably solid.
chances are theres gonna be wheel arch stuff and inner wing stuff that will require attention that wont be on the 200 quid quote, so it will probably rise.
by all means invest in a welder, yes your gonna feck stuff up, but the only way to learn is by doing it.
remove the carpet and trim, find out what needs attention, and work from there.

I would suggest that if you are going to insult someone for no good reason then try not to make a dick of yourself by showing your lack of English grammar.
It is either you're or you are a cock!

What's wrong with investing in a welder, getting some tuition and learning to do it yourself?
Who does yours?

Good point well put. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I Never said don't do it. Was pointing out harleyboy. That you get nothing for free. 200 is a good price and as said think of the other bits. It isn't a case of weld in s new floor. How are you going to treat the new metal. How are you going to stop the rust that you won't be able to see. Pointless job unless you do it properly. As for calling you a cock and my grammar. Im sorry. Was 8 pints of old Rosie in. But still no excuse!

Also I do my own welding. I went to college for 5 years doing mechanics/welding/bodywork.

Once again. Sorry

out of interest, how long does it take you to do a disco boot floor swap?

Depending on surrounding metal, and if im welding or bonding in the new floor, the amount of trim thats fitted etc...it can be done in a day if left to it...
