Somebody stole my bonnet last night.

I had problems with scrap metal enthusiasts rooting about and a couple of garage break inswhile The Ballast was in the house. Put them up and a 4" square CCTV warning sign up and had very few people where they shouldn't have been since.

I was looking at wiring a small ding-dong type door bell to a pir sensor with the bell box above the camera to get people to look up directly at the camera for a decent face shot.

Is the face shot so you can see who you shot with the hidden 12 bore ?!!

I'm keen to get it up and running asap as heating oil seems another favourite- hole cutter and drain the tank, my mate down the roads neighbors have has repeated problems

Sorted it?
Was it just me or are the instructions and menu system **** poor?

Did not bother with instructions-my opinion living in a black hole is the extreme lack of light needs more ir. I called maplin and I have a wide facia/soffit and the dome cameras sealed to it are. Now ip44 equiv and maplin will warranty it.

My opinion is the domes are not wonderful for colour etc, that said the ip68 bullets are better than I expected.

When funds allow I will upgrade dome camera's and more ir light Sony 100m ir camera is £70 on eBay

Turns out there has been some major thefts of late and my 4am bonnet opening was someone looking round.

Also the oil thefts are cordless drill and hole cutter

any good electrical wholesaler will now have reliable LED pir floods that dont cost the earth Electric centre have ones that have twin heads and arent to shabby looking as for the old Halogen 500W the problem with them IMO is if your away from home when the lamp blows you dont know till you get home 2 weeks later LED is deffo the way to go

Maplin CCTV packs seem great value all ready made up cables instructions and most now have smartphone access CHECK with local plob as to the notification requirments abour recording and also more importantly that any evidence gathered using personal CCTV will be admissable in court as I know of 2 commercial properties who have CCTV but as it wasnt operated by a SIA registered CCTV operator it wasnt allowable on court ( Someone else may know answar to this)

I'd like to use some LED floods but the ones I've bought so far have been great disappointments. I've reverted to 150watt floods to get the light but keep the costs down a bit. Any recommendations from anyone for LED floods that actually flood?

Never thought I'd see Kirkintilloch on here. Was brought up in Lenzie and most of the family still live around there. :D

To be fair the system is keenly priced 540tvl, the bullet cameras are better than expected and the DVR has good motion sensing and you can de-select areas that have trees moving etc
I had hoped the dome cameras used same ccd and ir leds, it is obvious that as these are technically indoor as until fitted to suitable surface are not ip44

Got some good news this evening. My bonnet has been found!

A neighbour on the next street over found it carefully hidden in the adjoining woodland. Looks like they were planning on coming back for it later on.

Having put it back on, I'm amazed at how easy it is to steal. Just pop the bonnet and lift it off. There's nothing screwing it down. The hinges look like they're there just for effect rather than actually screwed to anything.

Very lucky, I'd consider investing in some security before the bonnet or whole landy disappear.

since putting up my camera's I have had various people stop and look at red glow, but none have ventured onto drive, I have live view on my phone-and should have more capabilities running on my netbook remotely soon.

I know it's not the time, but the glow from the camera's is a good deterrent.
