Managed to get the use of a mates lift so i have decided to do a bit of oil service to my freelander.
I was thinking engine oil & filter ,diff oil, IRD oil and gearbox oil
I also have the use of one of those sucking machines to suck the oil out of the diff and ird to make things easier for me.

while i am under her is there anything else i have missed?? any advice would be good
cheers

Make sure you can get the IRD filler plug out before you do anything else, there have been posts on here where some have drained the IRD then couldn't refill it. Done mine today and the filler plug was more than tight at one point thought the bugger was welded in.

Never thought of this, so will check filler plug before draining the oil how much did it take to fill her back up??
cheers

Check your anti-rollbar bushes while you're under there and access is good. Dead easy to replace if they are knackered (put some poly ones on there as they'll last a lot longer).

Check the three rear diff mounts too as they have a tendency to perish and make lots of knocking noises. Lots on here in other threads if you need further info on that one.

Yes, the IRD filler plug is a sod to get loose - I needed an extra long bar.
Definitely check you can get the filler out before you drain it - otherwise you're screwed. :(

The IRD needs 75W-90 oil and takes just over a litre.

The rear diff needs 80W-90 oil and takes just under a litre.

Singvogel.

If your using an oil sucker you may not be thinking of removing the undertray but since you have the use of a lift you should consider removing it and lubing the bolts with copperslip or similar anti seize. It could save you struggling with them at later date if/when removal is necessary.

Drain the fuel sedementer/water trap, o/s/r wheel arch.
The IRD drain plug has a magnet on it, may be worth removing it to see whats on it rather than sucking the oil out.

Service history shows that the anti rollbar bushes were replaced at the end of may 2012 also shows the diff mounts were replaced in 2011 (all 3)
but will check just incase
cheers

Check the vcu mounts and prop shaft connections too. Also things like fool and brake lines are secure. Eggsauce is secure. Brake pipe leaks. Water leaks. Fool leaks.
