I'm toying with ideas for a new project, and I'm wondering if it is possible to fit a TD5 from a discovery into a Defender, the project will probably have a new\reworked chassis so engine mounts etc. won't be a problem, but can anybody confirm that the gearbox and engine will fit, and not need any parts changing like the TDi need?

the td5 uses an r380 box, so its worth checking the disco bell housing is the same length as a 90 one otherwise this may push the engine too far forward.

That's good changing the gear lever shouldn't be a problem, I take it the engine itself fits then, if I remember correctly you used to have to change something like the water pump or manifold or something on a TDi.

like the 300 tdi td5 was fitted as same engine in both vehicles so unlike disco 200tdi parts shouldnt need altering but you will need all the bits that differ from disco like air pipes from filter etc

hi, just thought i would jump in. i am thinking of doing the same conversion, i am assuming the defender you are going to use has a tdi engine fitted.
I allready have a td5 disco. How do you intend to sort the ecu, wiring.etc??
