Towed behind my defender she loaded up in a big cloud of smoke and hitched a ride home ready for me to have a play with and get running with a new turbo.

She's an X reg TD4 1951cc which i take it is 2.0!!

inside is just as clean.

owned by a father who broght it from his son 8yrs ago. his son brought it at just 12mths old.

been well cared for

yeh right drewster... not.

don't have a spare wheel for defender and am working on that. Not sure if i can get a swing out carrier on her though due to lower end mod with rear bumper

Before you buy a new turbo for it, check the turbo hoses (If you haven't already).

They split, once split the things give off huge clouds of black smoke at almost any RPM. This happened a couple of weeks ago on the wife's she paniced and took it to the nearest LR dealer who pronounced a dead turbo at £XXX!!

When I got to it I tried to squash the hoses, as advised on here, and my finger ends went straight through one of them, £15 later it's running like a dream :D

I would change the hoses anyway, only £140 for the full lot, blank the EGR valve and do a full service on it.

Colour is olso blue as it's the same as mine, should have air con and a cd player inside, has 15 inch alloys on it.

Very clean car for it's age. Check the basic's first before buying the turbo, it could be something simple.

Thanks for the info guys.
The rac/aa did check and tape up one of the hoses suspecting it split but found it not to be but i will deff be doing all that your advicing before going to the turbo route itself even though i'm fairly sure it is that.
The smoke coming out is very white/light grey. I don't know if that points in any particular direction.
The stereo looks to be a tape player but it might have a multi changer i guess.
I've not even sat in it since i parked it on the drive but intend a good look over tomorrow.

The mrs is badgering me like hell to keep it now. Knew that would happen lol, but i have to many vehicles so she won't be getting it.

Hi Hawky

look under the passenger front seat, that's where the multi changer is located. I didn't know mine had one either, it was only when I kept hearing something clicking under there every time I turned on the ignition, that I decided to take a look :)
