put the £300/£400 towars fixing your fender and forget the gaylander
 
I'm thinking of it as a way to make a little to cover some of the costs of fixing up the defender. If my mother was to have it she would cover the fix it costs and i would have her thing to sell on. Either way i'd want to earn something from it or not worth doing.
Its got all the light guards, side steps, dog guards etc on it and the interior is immaculate so even breaking it wouldn't be a massive prob.

Anyone know anything about fixing the turbo's on these???
 
well, i've done the deal lol.
Given the guy £300 plus 2 free grooming sessions for his dogs worth the extra £100. I run a mobile grooming business and he's one of my customers, hence my mrs spotting it.

Now i need to source the turbo.
 
yeh, i had a quick browse through but gonna hold off buying one until i've confirmed it's only that that needs doing. Got a bloke up the road i've helped out with moving and is not only one of my customers but also a good mechanic so as he owes me a favour or 2 i'm gonna drop it to him for an assessment and maybe some help getting it sorted.

Will this tow ok!!, are they permanent 4 wheel drive and do you have to do anything particular to tow a distance.

I imagine not but you guys would know.
 
It will tow as it is just fine. If you are worried, remove the prop for piece of mind

My only worry would be if it has been run dry of oil, chances are it will be needing an engine.

And, its probably not the turbo, probably just the breather filter blocked. Top up the oil, and start the engine up. Pull the dipstick out, if the oil comes out the dipstick tube, the filter is blocked
 
by all accounts he pulled it over fairly quickly when he realised it was deff wrong and could do so safely. The dipstick was down to the low level but like you say.. you never know.
I'm gonna fill it with some cheep oil to start with and see what happens.

That's a useful suggestion on the breather so will check that out firstly. Thanks.
 
Just a note - if you're towing you'll need all 4 wheels on the ground. If the 2 front's are lifted onto the bed of a van/truck they'll try to spin too as the rears start to move as it's permanent 4x4!
 
Don't even think about starting it without changing the crank case breather filter, when blocked they are the main reason for knackering the turbo.
Did he have to stall it to stop the engine or did it turn off with the key?
 
Well i've picked her up and now she's on my drive.
Bellowing white smoke but still able to drive and mechanic i had with me confirms that it's only the turbo, and prob 1 tyre needed lol
