Had a search but nothing really answered this one.

I have a '93 LSE which has an electronic speedo. It's stopped working and for obvious reasons I'd like to repair it. There are no warning lights on, and the needle wasn't jumping around, it just stopped working. Rev counter, fuel and temp gauges all still work fine.

When I removed the cover from the speedo housing, all looked ok, apart from a black cable, with a white inner, and a bare wire end which had been zip-tied to the top of the speedo. Is this significant?

Also, the cruise contol doesn't function, but never has done as long as I have owned the car. I've checked for vacuum pipe leaks and there don't appear to be any.

Thanks,

Brian.

bare wire is the alarm ariel.
most coman is the speedo drive unit in the t box or the unit at the end of the short speedo cable or the cable cruise needs a speed signal so to does the cruise a engine ecu fault read should show a loss of road speed signal giving a ides of the fault

Update...

I have replaced the speedo cable today, but to no avail. It is turning fine, so it seems the problem is with the dash binnacle.

Any ideas?

you need to check the speedo transducer on the end of the cable..

Could be wiring issue either as on my LSE. There is a connecter block beside the ABS unit at the bulkhead(thats where it is on mine) I traced the wires and found a break when I connected it back up the speedo was back working.
I have a pdf of the electronic troubleshooting guide for the 93 LSE and can email you a copy if you want it (Fookin thing is like hens teeth to find) thats how I've sorted most of my electrical issues, which could help out with your cruise control issues too

That would be really helpful - I'll PM you my e-mail address.

I've ordered a new transducer from Land Rover which I'll be collecting tomorrow, but I still don't know much about it - is it an easy swap?

Thanks

Ok...

Speedo transducer replaced this morning - speedo still not working.

Where do I go from here?

Quick update for those who may be interested or experiencing similar issues...

It turned out that the speed buffer was faulty, as that's where the speed signal was ending. It has been temporarily bypassed now to get the speedo working, and a new buffer has been ordered. Fingers crossed this will also get my cruise control woking.

Annoyingly...I've spent £100 on a new speedo cable and transducer...the new buffer was only £5.95. Typical.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Cheers.
