Hi all me and the landy are doing a 110 mile trip to Wales tomorrow to help my grandad rebuild his series 3 (will get some pics) mine is also a series 3 with a 200di it has overdrive Nd cruises at 45-50ishh was wondering if any one has nay tips
Motorway or A roads etc this is the furthest it will have been gave it a full service today changed all filters and oils etc
Cheers Tom

Steady away after checking fluids etc ....50'ish is usually a happy cruising speed in a series with overdrive in ....play it by EAR ...IF it sounds unhappy it probably is .
Keep an eye on the temp gauge and enjoy ...
We did 120 miles from Ashton under lyne (Manchesterish) to Barmouth weekend before last with a 109 FFR and fully loaded Sankey 4 dogs Half barrel BBQ and a fire pit plus enough stuff to cook curry in the field for 30 folks or so with no problems (apart from fuel consumption lol)

which part of wales you heading for ? if you can go through brecon enjoy the roads and views but watch out for the 2 wheelers if its fine there will be thousands about.

:D That's not a long trip, by the time you've noshed a bag of boiled sweets you'll be there.:D;)

50ish is a steady cruising speed for a Series landie? Do I cain mine then? Happily sit at 65 on the motorway if it is level or downhill!

110 miles...as long as the weather does not come inside the car you will be fine :D

get some red-ex in her before you top up the tank, 110 miles should get her system nice and clean, and possibly use less fuel on the return trip

I've a S3 with 2.25 diesel, it's the only transport i have now, and when I go fishing it's a 300+ mile round trip. :D I fish a lot..................

Your mad!

Over summer I was doing 320 mile round trips every two weeks in my 2a 109, standard 2.25 petrol, overdrive and 7.50 x 16 commercial tires. and if kept to 45-50 I could touch 30mpg. The advice I would have is keep a 2ltr bottle of water and a can of engine oil... But I am talking from a 2.25 point of view
and its already been said, if it doesn't sound right, it probably isn't right :)
