Been looking for a Defender but they all seem to be covered in chequerplate, which seems to me is a cheap and simple way to ruin a perfectly good Landie.

Am I the only one who thinks this way - does it actually serve any useful purpose other than maybe in the load area ?

Covers up the rust and dents.

Only use is on the wing tops to park a brew mug. :D

There's nothing to see here, no Tappytalky nonsense n gubbins.

Not a big fan of the chequered stuff, but like most of you, it doe's have it's use's. I find it much more acceptable when sprayed satin or matt black :D

I hate it, I suppose it offers a bit more impact resistence but to me it seems more of a rust/dent hidder or a 'jump on the bandwagon of off road bling' type thing.

I can see the point of wing/bonnet stuff on the 'fenders tho, they dent way to easy...

What about on a 3door disco? you have to cut the bottom of rear wing off (which is rotted anyway) to repair the sills. Then replace with what? am thinking of some outrageous fibreglass air scoops to cool the brakes:behindsofa:

Put some on me wing tops after went flyin on to me arse when loading up the roof rack in the rain. :doh:I also don't load the roof rack in the rain anymore:lol:

I put some black plate on my wing tops and sills, reason for wing tops was same as previously mentioned as it makes loading onto the roof rack easier. Did the sills just for cosmetic purposes.

Its a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it I think. I bought one with it on the wing tops, adds strength and in the rear tub and front footwells. I dont mind it on a Series.

Wot about Rainbow mirrafleck?

Now there's an idea :D:D:eek:

Don't like 5 bar plate much personally but tis blurdy practical sometimes.......I'm getting increasingly concerned about the ever increasing gap between my bonnet and wings so plate it is.

Wouldn't EVER put it on top of steel.....gotta nuff problems with tin worm as it is

Ah well, mixture of opinions, then, and maybe it does have some uses if you're wont to stand on the wings.

Thanks for the reponses, everyone !
