has anyone fiited a boost gauge to there td4.
my mate gave me one from his old car so i thought it try it, wheres the best place/pipe to cut to insert the t-piece.
it already has the EGR blank with no hole for vacume, and the vacume that goes to the old hole is blocked.
any help appriciated.:)

ok so ive tried teeing into various lines with no luck, as all the vacuum lines suck, the readings on the gauge are minus.
At the mo its Teed into a hose line which goes from the turbo to some sort of valve where other lines are also connected.
The readings display under zero but do move up and down but never goes above zero.

Can someone help as i cant think where else i should T into.

That "valve" sounds like a wastegate. The value will be reading minus until you actually get on boost. Have you driven it up the road on boost?

Hmm, interesting. I don't know the exact layout of the engine, but the hose needs to be plumbed into a section of pipework AFTER the compressor of the turbo and BEFORE the plenum. Anywhere in there and you should be good to go.

if you take a look at the image, it shows where i have put the t-piece, can someone please correct me.
The gauge needle moves up but stays in minus.

that's a vacuum hose you've attached it to ..
it operates the variable vane mechanism on the turbo

the gauge must be connected somewhere between the turbo air exit
and the intake manifold ..

that's the solid metal pipe to semi-rigid rubber hose that runs From the turbo
towards the intercooler .. then the rubber ( or silicone if fitted ) hoses
that run From the intercooler .. via the egr device .. to the intake manifold

~~~~~~
why ???? .. add a turbo boost gauge to a rather mundane engine like the TD4 ?
it will be just one more connector / hose that could potentialy leak .. and loose the boost pressure ..
this post deleted ..was a bad idea that would not have worked ( sorry :)
So i could buy a fitting kit from ebay and tap into intercooler hose before the manifold???
in theory .. i'd guess that's a 'yes' :)
does your td4 have a temp sensor fitted along those hoses that run from
the intercooler to the intake ??
'cause if not .. you could aquire the plastic tube fitting that normaly houses that sensor
and modify it to take the hose from the boost gauge ..
( some vehicles were fitted with that sensor .. some not .. i don't know the year
( when that change occured ..
btw: regarding that vacuum hose to the turbo that's been cut into ..
make sure you don't get any crap inside it ( dirt or anything else )
because it will mess up the turbo vane actuating system ..
there's a filter on that system that's changed as part of the annual engine servicing
it's there to stop grit etc from being sucked into the mechanism ..
mine doesnt have the intercooler sensor, but i like your idea of sourcing one and makeshifting it to fit a boost gauge, i may look into this.
in theory you could use the hole where the sensor normaly sits
as a site where you could attach a connector for your gauge hose ..
be a pic attached: .. the sensor sits in the short plastic pipe that ..
can be seen between the blue hoses .. to the left of the 'bmw' lettering
some general info : .. :)
the td4 has the mitsubishi turbo .. ( as far as i know ) :
'n evidently there was a revision of the bmw sourced 'td4' around 2004
Hi
You could look on e-bay for an egr by-pass some of these have a connector for a boost gauge (just remove blanking screw) or you could you could just drill and tap your egr valve body and fit a tubing adaptor.
