Why did you buy a disco!!

Bought a caravan and the wifes Tigra wouldnt pull it so I got her a Disco .... then sold the caravan .... that was 4 years ago ... She has a people carrier I have company car and me Disco comes out at play time

Had to give up football, so now I am busy most weekends.

I used to have a Hilux Surf(import) not a bad puller for the caravan. It died so I bought a 300tdi and the difference was noticed straight away. I had to stop a couple of times just to reassure myself that I was actually towing still and I beat a petrol head away from a set of lights with the caravan on the back. I have a 2002 TD5 now which is even better and very fuel efficient as was the 300tdi. Kent to Cornwall on 3/4 of a tank of diesel. I would of kept the 300tdi but the boot floor was decaying so thought more economical to get an up grade.

More economical to spend a one-r and do the floor

I planned on buying a Lancruiser and while searching for one I was introduced to "Land Rovers". I saw a 95-TDI 300 and thought if I bought it and spent on it 2000 British Pounds (20,000 Egyptian pounds) I would be further ahead than buying the Landcruiser I could afford. Little did I know the nightmare that is Land Rover and specifically in Egypt. The car haven't worked more than a week or 10 days without having to get it repaired. Las month alone, I replaced the flywheel then the transmission pump (the mechanic broke it when replacing the flywheel) and in the process the AC stopped working and at the end the transmission still didn't work properly as there was and still is debris plugging the governor even after I replaced the fluid yet one more time. I It shifts only after the fluid warms up. Yesterday the car overheated and at the very least blew the head gasket. 80% of the problems are the mechanics damaging the car when "fixing" it, 15% parts scarcity and having to order and wait for parts from UK or use makeshift parts and 5% the car itself being old and from what I hear being a Land Rover!

got my third one now, broke the first two because i wanted the engines and a few other parts for my Series motors(the only reason i bought them) i've knocked a big end out in one of my engines so this is why i bought my third

discos are great even if i only use them as donors

Had money to waste.

Just got rid of my Disco 2 I feel like a great weight has been taken off my back. No more ACE, flywheel, abs and fuel leak problems. It was a pleasant thing to drive but cost about as much as a helicopter in maintenance.

to be replaced by?

I had a defender up until last year and replaced it with a Mitsi L200. I was hankering after another defender but was tempted into my first disco by the much cheaper pricetag. It's a TD5 on an '02 plate - verrr naarce.
Reading this thread I hope I'm not going to regret it.

Very true, the L200 should have blown up like Fukushima by now.

that is very true, mine has cost a fortune to get it right after i got it, just a lack of maintinance, so cost alot to get it spot on. now runs like a dream
just don't get a landrover from Vulcan Vans in Doncaster

Cheapest 4x4 I could find, and I thought it would be a bit of an oddity around here. (I was wrong.)

how do your fellow countrymen take to the landrover or are they thought of as just foreign?

where I live is right on the coast of essex, we have many locals owning them.
but we get many tourists with them here, most have towed caravans (trailors) down for holidays.

the mrs dont think s3 109 will make it to france
and 5 kids
so the freelander went and the disco popped in
still keeping both s3s (i think but she dont think so)
