Hi,

I haven't driven my P38 for about a week, which I see as no excuse for the battery to have completely died. Nevertheless that is what's happened. So just now I took my spare battery out (heavy duty) to jump it, not expecting any issues. Sure enough the moment I connected it the remote key worked again and everything lit up.
Then I turned the key, and got the horrifying message "engine disabled". The started motor judders but nothing more.
To add insult to injury, the radio is requesting its code.

How do I rectify these problems? Also, why would the battery have gone flat? It's parked on the level so the compressor should have left it alone.

Thanks in advance for much needed help.

You are obviously not aware of the RF Reciever issue....

The Central Locking system uses a small RF reciever for the Remote Fob, the older version has a tendancy to pick up spurious radio signals, the unit then wakes the BeCM up and asks to check if the recieved Radio Code is the right one to unlock the doors...the BeCM replies with a No, so the RF unit ignores it, after 3 minutes the BeCM goes back to sleep until it is again woken up by the RF Receiver again asking to check another spurious code....

This continual waking up of the BeCM for 3 minutes, every 3 minutes all night long drains the battery very quickly.

You can as a temp measure remove the Blue RF Ariel from the unit, or the permenant fix is to replace the unit with the newer version.

Do a search on here and you'll get the part numbers and also how to check that you have the latest version.

The levelling of the vehicle only levels to its lowest point by exhausting air, it doesn't pump itself up....left long enough it will eventually lower itself to the bump stops trying to level itself to its lowest corner all the time....

The length of time to get to the bump stops will depend on the condition of the Valve Block seals and the Air Bags.....bumps overnight indicate either unlevel surface or a leak....I would expect it to remain fairly 'up' for 3-4 days with only a little drop of 1-2cm over that time.

Hi,

Depends how cold the weather went overnight too. I get gremlins in my P38 that convince the car to not let the windows work or leave the lights on all the time and remove the noise from the indicators too. I disconnect the battery wait three quaeters of an hour and reconnect. Reset all the windows and put in the radio code and back to normal until next time.

I tend to lower it to access having finished with it for the day to take the strain off; good idea?

hi , if you P.M. me i will give you my no and u can ring me and i wll sort it out for you over the phone , cheers mozz

Thank you so much for your help. I went to the dealer, and they've given me the 2 codes. I'm now charging the battery off the mains, so will let that run overnight and then follow the instructions tomorrow.

Leaving it lowered only means the compressor has to work to refill the tank when it raises, best to leave it in standard that way if it has only dropped a few mm the compressor wont have so much work to do.

Also find the source of the battery drain soon or the battery will only go flat again!

OK, all the problems are sorted (thanks to everyone who helped!) bar one.. the sat nav no longer works.
It's an aftermarket unit controlled by IR remote. The dvd in the boot goes in and out and lights etc, but the screen is blank on ignition and engine start. No buttons do anything. Could inputting the eka have scrambled it or something?
Thanks

Just had a look at my handbook, it says : on vehicles fitted with sat nav, DO NOT disconnect the battery for at least 2 minutes after the starter switch is turned off - irreparable damage to the navigation computer may occur.....sorry fella

Is that for the P38, as I can't find it in my list of handbooks..??

He did mention it was aftermarket, and not OEM...but yer never know with these all these electrickery items!!

Yes, its in my p38 handbook supplement (i have factory sat nav on mine). It might be different for aftermarket units...it does say this though.wait 2 minutes for the POWER ON led light to go out on the navigation computer - located on the right hand side of the luggage compartment. So i guess this is the same even if using a different head unit.

That's all very well, but it was certainly longer than 2 minutes from ignition off to battery drain and failure.. more like half a week! To be on the safe side, anyone know the fuse for the satnav head?
