Hi
Can anybody help I have recently traded my Defender 90 TD5 XS for a 2008 Puma XS.
A second or 2 after I start it up I hear a short high pitched sound like a relay or valve opening from the ABS unit. My local Landrover garage checked it with his testbook and no faults came up.
I can't remember my TD5 XS making this noise and was wondering if any Puma XS owners are hearing it also.
I will add that it only happens once, then you can start it again with no noise and then you have to drive it for the noise to repeat itself on stopping and starting again. Hope this makes sense.

haven't noticed anything on my 2009 110, but I've always got the radio on.

Recently upgraded my radio with a more powerful unit in my 110. I was very pleased to discover that this relatively cheap mod has masked all those expensive sounding knocks, bangs, whistles and clunks that used to have me constantly worrying.

Traction control, may not be its correct terminology as its different on all cars.

The system that applies brake to the spinning wheel that lost traction. Could be going through a test sequence but unlikely if nobody else has experienced it.

Spoke to a fella with same car and he got it when driving, could be caused by sensing of difference in rpm of wheels, ie going round corners. Or check tread wear, is one end excessive?

Ford focus when driven silly will make same sound without actually losing traction.

Could always buy a 300tdi!,:D

Well, I didn't hear anything when I started her up this mornin.
Mind you, after 40 years of shooting, my hearing aint the best.

Don't ever hear this, but then it is a noisy beast after all?

The Tech would have been using IDS/SDD as Testbook does not cover past Td5.

No lights at all on the instrument pack? If not, wouldn't panic just yet. ;)

Do you take a sharp turn into your drive?
Thanks for all the replies
It doesn't happen when I am driving, only the first time that I start the engine after driving. Then it wont do it again until I drive and stop again.
I am wondering if the ABS is going through a self check and this is what I am hearing.
Also if I put my foot on the brake whilst starting I can feel a judder through the pedal for a moment
