Those of you who might be going to Eastnor in August this year might be interested to read the reply I received from LRE as to how the off-roading will work.
John

Thank you for your email.

May I first of all explain the difference between this years Land Rover show to the ones in previous years that have been based on the Eastnor Estate. This years show is being organised and run by a private organisation (Mark Woodward Classic Events) and is a show focusing on Land Rovers history and heritage, set in what is seen by many as the true home of Land Rover off road.
Previous Land Rover shows at Eastnor, were run by Land Rover World magazine in partnership with Land Rover Experience and focused more on off road driving. These shows were heavily subsidised by Land Rover, allowing us to pass on that saving to the visitors of the show that enjoyed our off road courses in the form of self drives that were not convoy led. These shows were ultimately cancelled as the format led to huge amounts of damage to tracks that are not only in area's controlled by SSSI status, but used daily by LRE as a customer focussed business, and JLR Engineering groups in development of off road durability and capability.

This year we have been brought in, like many other companies, as an exhibitor and service provider at the privately run show. The cost of the Self Drive reflects the cost to us to run the convoy led sessions. The Self Drive convoys may be viewed as less extreme off road routes in relation to past Land Rover shows on the Eastnor Estate, but this is a unique opportunity for Land Rover enthusiasts to have access to some of the most prestigious Land Rover tracks used for off road development in their own vehicles.

With regards to your comment on Heath and Safety, at Land Rover Experience we pride ourselves on our safety record and would not allow anyone to drive the off road tracks here with out a suitable level of supervision. Any track user allowed access to the Eastnor Estate is under our duty of care, and this is the only way that we can cost effectively bring this experience to as many show guests as possible. In previous years, when the drive was not convoy led, the courses were marshalled by dozens of recovery trained members staff at a significant cost to Land Rover.

Throughout the route this year guests will be in radio contact with the convoy leaders who will be pointing out important features of the Eastnor Estate and explaining it's significance in the past development and future plans of Land Rover and Range Rover products.

The only cost Mrs Blip and I can remember was our lunch.

Still Eastnor is a lovely place and I am looking forward to the show.

Cheers

Blippie
