You can use 2 roll pins to act in the way the plastic pins used to, as that's what is supplied when you change to an after market steering wheel.
Sounds like a cheap and easy fix with a minimal amount of drilling.

Yeah but where does it say it was the steering lock mechanism that caused it and not just the steering locked up. It looks like a toy and modded so you have no idea whats been going on under the bonnet.

if the key had been in the ignition and switched to on that wouldnt of happened, simple.
