Petrol 2001 intermittent running rough on startup and intermittent misfire mystery

Every now and then all cars need a good thrashing to clear all the detritus thats lingering in the engine.

I used to do this with my old Audi V6 after the Mrs had been pottering around in it all week. She used to say "it drives much better after you take it out for a spin on your own" ;)
 
A week in from repair, 3 amigos still off, used almost half a tank of petrol with injector cleaner and so far no running on 3 cyl. or misfires on startup. Mixed driving town and A road 160 miles. :D

Still go the mystery coolant loss, no sign of internal or external leaking. Max to min in 200 miles :confused: pressure test not revealed anything abnormal. I have found out looking through the invoices, that when indy LR did the HG repair in 2010 they did not also replace the waterpump as I asked. Sooo. my next thought, is the pump leaking only small ammounts when the engine is running? Or is the inlet manifold, new gasket fitted in August by LR indy, leaking internally and dissapearing during combustion :confused:

Not had the chance to "chat" with LR indy yet, but will deffo not be going back there for work. I shoulda gon to speksavers:(
 
Water pump leak is evident as there will be coolant dripping, gushing on mine, from under the drive pulley.
It's a good idea to just replace the inlet gasket again, just make sure it's the newer green type and don't crush it when tightening.
Check all your hoses, clips and expansion tank.
 
Had a inlet manifold leak on my K series. Fitted a new silicone gasket with a smear of Hylomar at each end of the head around the water pasageways before tightening it back up. No leak since.
The head around the two passageways tends to get a bit of corrosion and so may not seal effectively - mine had a leak into no 1 inlet that was a pig to find, not enough to show on the plug but enough to need regular top ups.
Also had a slow leak on the water pump - only found that when I spotted a tiny wet patch after a drive on a hot day when parked up on a clean concrete surface. You could try placing clean piece of cardboard underneath the pump area after a run?
Give all of the hoses a good check over as Freelaner says and also check for cracks around the top of the header tank.
 
Well guys,

All hoses and connectors are brand new, so is the inlet manifold gasket, green type according to LR indy when they fitted it. I have been all over it this morning again, no signs of leaks at all anywhere. I am really inclined to go with TD John and Freelaner (possibly also formaly known as an artist called prince HP? :D) ref your thoughts about re doing the IMG. It has only really been loosing coolant more noticably since that job and coolant pipes replacement was done back in the summer. Thanks for the advice, I will see how things go over this next week. Am keeping an eye on the coolant tank, as I can see crazing starting to appear around the neck, the tank is only a couple of years old, but don't know if it is an LR part or cheap aftermarket. No signs of anything leaking out yet though. I hope my thread may eventuallly help others with similar problems.
