Got the original disco 1 radio/cd changer
Everything works good although radio occasionally crackles, hardly ever on 'STEREO' but never the less doesn't lose stored channels. Is it the aerial? Mines wing mounted....pressume no amplifier on this aerial....
Should I test with mock up aerial? Buy new aerial (although how do you replace wing mounted aerial? is it unclip wheel arch plastic bits? Not going to unbolt wing!)

Start by making sure the aerial is grounded, you will have to remove the wheel arch plastic bits and maybe the wheel and then dismantle by undoing the top nut, clean the area so to make a good aeriel to wing contact and reassemble.
Also check that the aerial is fully extended and the lead is pluged into the back of the head unit.

Aerial ok, must be unit. CD all ok no probs you see.....

could be Aerial try replacing it, they'er cheap enough..
the aerial can fail internally, even with a good ground..
water and rot sets in.
also the lead or plug can be damaged, so a new aerial will sort this out too..

i bought one at halfords fitted in car park and held it, still same reception, no stereo signal...put back in packet and got refund, bloke in halfords advised me to do that with a nice clean carefull cut down the side of packet!!

I get mono on all the stations radio 1 radio 2 3, 4 etc. They are all tuned in RDS displaying channel name.
Occasionally I get a few moments of stereo come up. Otherwise it's generally ok but with intermittent craclkling/sometimes slightly quieter

Ok no stereo signal so what about a mono, not all stations transmit in stereo. You are on a FM fequency arn't you.

If nether then maybe it's time to replace/repair your head unit :(
