300Tdi manual gear change suddenly different.

The gear change on my Tdi/R380 Disco has suddenly altered.
When I come out of 2nd the lever no longer pops over to align with the gate for third.
What I have just said is not quite right because parked up, engine idling, clutch pressed I can feel the spring you prwss agaist to select 1&2. So it might be something on the end of the lever that is not coming back with the lever when it self-centres.This means that I am having to hunt for 3rd.

Any one had the same & is this a precurser of iminent xeath/expense?

bias plate holding springs for lower lever is broken ,you need to remove consol

Would I not feel a lack of bias when pushing the lever to 1&2?
It might be a bit reduced but I might be imagining it.
does the ball on the end of the lever sit in a nylon cup or something? Might this have broken up?

plate holds springs in right position so that lever rests in 3rd 4th alignment ,without upright part to do this lever rests against 1st 2nd spring ,ut either way bias plate holds gear lever pivot in place

Broken plate allowing the upstanding part between the springs to move.
Tricky to get the box-like cover off the housing. I had to bend the edge of the body hole up to allow it to come out.
