Whilst drive to work on Thursday I lost power intermittantly generally after changing gear and limped to work. I took it into the garage on Friday and it did the same and the EM light came on.

Anyway it turns out it was the high pressure fuel pump, I was charged £160 for the pump and filters and £40 for labour inc VAT, does this sound about right?

I'm not mechanically minded and won't have the tools so fixing it myself wasn't really an option.

Cheers

Rob

If the car's fixed for £200 all in that sounds pretty good to me if you couldn't have carried out the job on your own at home!

Some garages near me charge £60/hr+ which soon adds up if the job takes longer than expected even without parts!

Whats your car a TD4?
Thats very cheap for a high pressure pump on a TD4. Very common problem on the TD4 is the plug on the end of the fuel rail "greens up". This gives same symtoms you had. Cost of repair if the plug isnt too bad is unplug and spray with contact cleaner. If the plug is really knackered then the new loom costs about £40.
Garage tried to charge me for a HP pump when thanks to this forum I found the real cause of my problems and fixed it myself.
Cost of a HP pump is about £400 - just for the part. plus fitting.

Maybe i got it wrong but it was the one at the rear of my TD4.

I was just glad they got it running so quickly, the garage (York Landrover Services) have always seemed good and much cheaper than the LR dealers when it's been serviced by them and it's running pretty well at 96k miles otherwise.

Thats a good price then. Cost of a low pressure pump is about £150, change the fuel filter at the same time. £200 is a reasonable price in my opinion.

Glad to hear your car is sorted now
