Series Electrics are fairly straight forward, i'm sure with a big of guidance we can help out with your problems...

First step is check that you have connected the lamp units in to the main loom correctly and got good earths at each lamp . You should have both working on one side if one works as they are common feed from the indicator stalk . Have you got a hazard switch, if yes what happens when you operate it ?

disconnect wires at indicator lamps , connect 1 lamp at time , this will track it down to one lamp. When you find which lamp has short as a quick try reverse connectors to what they were before. I have come across incorrectly wired lamps eg the supposed supply wire going to the earth on the lamp which has a earthing strip under a fixing screw which shorts to earth . You didnt answer if you are in Buckingham , if you would rather not thats no problem

Get some 7 core trailer wire, pull it through to the back, and a piece to the front, join the front and back park lights, and flickers and join to the existing wiring behind the dash. You can install some relays for headlights if you like. At the back you will have two wires extra for reverse light or interior light etc.

Its a bit difficult without knowing what your 20 amp relay on flashers is wrired as but on the face of it that could be a problem . another thing is box 4 (28) a fuse if not you have got no fuse supply to your spot lamps only the switched feeed for the relays for the lamp (less than 2 amps is fused) Its a nicely drawn diagram tho !

Ain't solved my problem yet...
I replaced the front indicators and side lamps - worked fine until night time. Turned out when I put on the dash panel lights the indicators stop working.
1984 S3 - wiring been messed about with a fair bit (only had it a month) - any ideas for when I take off the dash again...!?

sounds like when you swith on dash panel lights (which come on with side lights ) you are losing an indicator earth . Do you lose both sides of indicators ? if yes than the problem is with dash wiring .
