Wheel questions

I've just bought a 2002 Freelander 1.8S 3dr but need a little advice on it's wheels. It's fitted with 4 standard 16 inch 5 spoke alloys, but the spare is slightly different. They all look pretty much the same, although the spare has no holes between the stud holes, is made by Speedline, and does not fit the rear drums - the spokes hit the drum before you can tighten the nuts fully - could this be off a different vehicle - Discovery, etc
Also, will 15" steel wheels fit my truck, as I know of some cheap which I could fit winter tyres to.

15" wheels will fit (our facelift FL has 15s).
But you need to check the offset, PCD and centre bore of the wheels.
You also ought to know the vehicle they came from - EG wheels off a 1000kg Suzuki Jimny may not be best fitted to a 2 tonne freelander!

The spare sounds aftermarket to me. If it don't fit, discard it.

Hi just make sure all 4 tyres are the same make/model/size !

2002 came with option of 15" 16" or 17". Make sure any wheels you get are from the right year - there were some changes to PCD as far as I remember.

As already mentioned, make sure you have a decent matched set of tyres and all your wheel rims are he same width. Original 16s would have been 6J fitted with 215 65 16 tyres. It's quite possible that a previous owner has put 4 alloys on and left a different spare. Get a matched set - you might need it one day.

had the same problem i got a 2000 freebie which had 15s as standard when fitting 16s both genuine would not fit bought some 10mm spacers on thiefbay problem solved

The wheels without the "holes" between the spokes are for earlier Freelanders 1's, the ones with the holes are for later Freelanders 1's, the design was changed (can't remember exactly when) to accomodate the larger front brake calipers on later models, sounds like they must have done something to the drums as well if your's won't fit the rear wheels. As a result of your post I have just noticed that I've got an "odd" wheel, I bought 5 as a set & they are the newer type wheels I then bought an extra spare & I just noticed it's the older type wheel, shouldn't matter cos I've got 30mm spacers fitted.

I've fitted 205/80/16's which are about 2" bigger diameter over standard tyres & my speedo is now spot on when checked with the sat nav on a straight road & those signs that tell you what you speed is, someone was telling me that all speedo's are set up to read 10% high as standard.

Well thats bollocks.

As a couple of the other guys have told you it's an older style wheel with a different offset. Use a 6mm spacer though , not 10mm as you'll still have a very small amount of the hub spigot protruding to help centre the wheel & also have more meat on the wheel studs to tighten up the wheels. Some guys use 5mm spacers but it's a little thin for clearing the drum whereas 6mm is perfect. 10mm is too thick.
