Hello fellas!! I need a bit of help, I've noticed a muffled knocking noise coming from the front drivers side wheel, it only happens when I go over a bump, any ideas? Thanks. Ian

Take a look at the drop links see if there is too much play in them , also get under freelander and to the back of engine you will see the anti-roll bar . See if it moves about too much aslo there is stopers either end of the bar to stop it moving out and hittin the struts , sometimes the break off and let it move out . Mine was gone and just cut a big washer on 1 side and put it around the bar and held it in place with a jubile clip .

Exactly - snapped arb drop link or foobarred bushes - don't bodge it, fix it :)

The drop links and cv joints seem ok, nothing loose, I'll check the anti roll bar this afternoon, thanks for all the help

I had a mechaic look at the car today, he didnt really check underneath it, he just opened the drivers door, bounced the car up and down, and then said he wanted me to drive it around the block so he could listen to the noise, I went over a couple of bumps and said "Shock absorber gone 100% sure" I'm not convinced, everyone says it more likely to be the drop link, especially if the shocker isnt leaking oil. What do you think?

This is almost certainly the drop links.

Replace them as a pair and don't forget to get new nylock nuts for top and bottom - they don't usually come with the links.

Far-east cheapies are real c**p, don't waste your money - as you'll need to do the job again in 20K.

Depending of course on how many potholes / sleeping policemen the car has gone over, I reckon to replace 2 or 3 sets of drop links before the shocker bushes go.
