Hi. Hope some one can help. I put fuel in my car. Or so I think. Car running little rough. so drained some and it was floresent green. could this be because I put in petrol. It was late and in a rush.

Well It wasn't me It's my mate. who borrowed the car. nop receipt. Sure car be ok. only 4 ltrs over half a tank. It's the colour that's puzzuling me. It's floresent lime green. could this be the mix or is diesel this colour

depends which refinary it came from
I work on an oil terminal and if the diesel comes from LOR it has a greenish tint to it
if it comes from conoco it has a slight blueish tint to it
ones is usually called AD10
( think it stands for Automotive diesel less the 10 ppm of sulpher)
and the other ULSD ( ultra low sulpher diesel )

normall petrol not realy have any noticable colour in raw state but with the additives some places add it could change its colour

Diesel from Hilton Perk sevices and Knutsford services used to be bright green

dont know why....:)

Thank's thought it might be some low tax stuff. Didn't want to get caught with wrong stuff. Thanks for replies.

If petrol got in the tank and is 1/2 tanf fill with best diesel you can afford to dilute the petrol. But diesel is a greenish tint manufacturer and time of year/season will make a difference in green color.

diesel really does coe in some luminous colours, easiest way to tell is if it doesnt sting ya nostrils to smell, another way to tell is that a mouth full of it wont feel clean for two whole days, and a more dangrous risky way to know is to put a cigerette out in it lol

The lighter trick is not 100% true some addidtive in DERV now burn as well as petrol and you can put a fire out with petrol ;)

add 2 stroke oil to the tank at a ratio of 200:1 (300ml to 60 litres) this will help to offset the huge reduction of sulphur in diesel to bring the emissions down over the years.
The easiest way to calculate how much to add is to divide your litres by 2 and add a 0 to the answer. You put in 82 litres of fuel, half of that is 41, add 0 so now 410ml. 410ml x 200 = 82000ml or 82 litres. You can add the two stroke oil at any time, it will mix through the diesel quick enough.
The type of two stroke oil you want to add is either mineral or semi synthetic that meets JASO FC or ISO-L-EGC / D. This has a low ash content. You do not want a fully synthetic. Tesco's blue bottle £2.34 litre

now the boring bit....
for a time in my life, I was transport foreman for one of londons biggest borroughs.
each year, we had to die our fuel a different colour.
we had some nice bright yellow one year, the same year I was cabbing an old english white rover 2600 (nice comfy car)
dam yellow die stained the side of shiney white rover,
dont know why?
never stayed in that foremans job for long after.....
*
do other borroughs or fleets own pumps still die there own fuel pretty colours......
