if were talking used car warrentee imho theyre a complete waste of money, if youre buying a car from a dealer they have legal obligations to fix it, the aftermarket warentees require garage servicing at specified intervals and exclude the bits that are likely to wear out.
 
Warranty direct is a complete waste of money. You have to have full documented service history and the items they cover are normally what doesn't break. My steering rack went on a Nissan almera with full service history and 54000miles on the clock they said the seal that blew wasn't covered because it was fair wear and tear!!! And even though the steering rack required replacing and was covered in the policy they wouldn't pay out.
