Hi, I have a 1999 1.8, got it with the fault thinking how hard can this overfueling fault be, how wrong was I! After having a look arould on the net turns out this is a common fault, but know one has the answer, seems people have spent £££ replacing parts that havent fixed the fault then scraped the car or ended up selling it for scrap money to idoids like me!!!

The HC's are at around 2000 and co is of the scale. Been through the usaul over fueling faults. Lambda sensor is stuck at 0.8v though if I dissconect one of the injectors the lambda starts to switch between 0.2-0.8, then the Co and HC's come right down would even easly pass a MOT but its running on 3 cilyders! The temp gauge is doing all sorts of funny things on the dash board going from stone cold to 1/4 when it likes. I have heard that the ecu only takes the lambda reading when the engine reaches 84 degrees??? Is there just that one temp sensor? As using live data the temp reaches 105 deg but fans arnt coming in and temp on dash is still low.
Disconect the brown temp sensor so the ecm thinks its hot brings the cooling fan in, but the dash bored gague still doesnt move from cold and also the lambda is still not switching, becuse its still over fueling??? Also had the ecm tested and all ok....

HELP PLEASE!! before the snow comes!!!

The brown sensor is the ECU temp sensor as you say and there should also be a blue one for the temp gauge. It could be your ECU temp sensor is faulty and telling the ECU the engine is cold all the time.

Have you done a compression test on the cylinders?

The only advice I can give you is dump the petrol Hippo and buy a Land Rover.

Hello,

My short answer would be to change the fuel pressure regulator. This is a small lump on the end of the fuel rail (injector rail), NOT on the fuel pump. These cost about £25 and I think about 30mins to fit. If you go ahead be warned that the k-series engine the fuel line remains at pressure after engine/ignition off so needs to be depressurised. To do this (if I remember) you need to pull the fuse for the fuel pump then turn the engine over on the key.

Ill write up more info on this later as I, on the train at the moment.

Sorry I just re read this and confused it with another over fuelling post I read. I think you need to get those temps sorted and as above there are two temp senders. Also it's always worth considering a bad earth on weird electrical issues.
