Hi, I've just replaced the outlet radiator hose (the one with the bleed screw) for my 1.8k and It still seems to be leaking but I can't tell where from??? It seems to be from the engine outlet (behind the water pump) but what is this called? Cheers

It is where the thermostat housing is situated . My freelander is a 2000 model 1.8 with dizy newer 1's have coil pack . I have done the mod for thermostat and moved it up by the radiator . I too had a leak in the join on the thermostat housing after removing the the orignal thermostat and replacing it with the blank . I just used instant gasket to seal the housing

I that where the thermostat is? What a fecking daft place lol it's the 2000 coil pack model

Yeah sure was think the idea was to heat up engine quicker but it was believed to be part of the head gasket probs . I was lucky and got the thermostat mod with all the pipes from a breakers yard for €10 and done it myself and used the old thermostat with the centre cut out as the blank for the original housing .

The housing is held together with 3 bolts and splits in two , a steel pipe goes on the other end with an o ring seal . to get at the thermostat you will first have to remove 2 bolts on the steel pipe which holds it in place on the engine doing this gives you more play to sperate the housing . I done this from the top of the engine and getting my hands down back of engine . You could also remove the inlet manifold to get more access but can be done without removing it but less space .

I've taken the thermostat off and it's failed big time! Warped on 2 sides! Any ideas on where I can get a replacement? Seen one on eBay bit it's an auction and they won't end it early!!!

Is that the thermostat mod?

yeah thats the 1 they goin for about £80 on ebay with the diff pipes to re route , just put a thermostat with center cut out in the original housing and thats job done . Be carefull when tightening bolts on the housing as if you over do it it leaks

It's already got it fitted??? Why's it got two? Lol replacement coming tomoz, I'll take the new stat out :)

the housing at the back is the original thermostat on the k series engine , it was believed it was part of the reason the head gaskets were failing on the engine . So the new remote thermostat was used on the engine to help solve some of the issues . When replacing the housing on the rear of engine make sure there is no thermostat in housing just a blank to seal the housing .
