Hi guys, I am after some help, please.

I am lucky enough to have two landrovers, a 110 that I used day to day and a series 3 that I use as a "play" vehicle at weekends. I have standard road tyres on both at the moment, but am thinking about winter.

On my 110, I commute to work in normal road conditions. On my series 3, I use it for green laning, but nothing too serious and for attend some events in fields, but nothing that really taxes the landy. I don't intend to go in for trials or go mud-wading.

What I want to know is what to do about winter tyres, particularly in the snow as we have had a couple of bad bouts the past two years. Do the chunky-looking mud tyres work as well in snow? It sounds a daft question, but I just don't know. I am looking to keep one set for my S3, but maybe have a summer and winter set for the 110.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Cheers

Hello mate, Welcome to the mad house!

As for tyres, I ran 235 Insa Turbo Dakars during the snow on my 300 tdi defender, they seemed to work quite well, cheap to as they are remoulds, they are a bit noisey on the normal road, never the less a cheap budget choice for winter motoring. On my 1992 Disco V8 I ran 225 Kuhmo KL71's, not sure they gripped as well in the snow as the dakars but were quite alot quieter for every day road driving, but that said they are quite a bit more expensive than the dakars.

Hope that helps?

We run Cooper STTs on our main vehicle, they are awesome in snow and mud, and good in dry weather. Recently, the 90 has proven to be a bit unstable under sharp braking in the wet though. Your best bet is to go all terrains unless you really need awesome off-road grip and drivable on road. Either way, there's no perfect tyre

Bfg all terrain would be a good choice, they're expensive but worth every penny.
If you want a cheaper option go for insa's,they come in a range of tread patterns from the mild to the extreme. I have special tracks on my series which I think are the ultimate offroad for the price but ****e on road.
I have traction tracks on the disco and they are really good offroad and still good on road just a little bit noisey. For remoulds they are a good tyre we've just done a 3000 mile round trip to the south of France in the disco fully loaded up and the tyres gave no probs at all, they don't even look like they've worn at all

these are the traction tracks
