well the only 2 good jobs i can see and i might be wrong (and sorry to the owner if i am) ....is the engine and gearbox swop into a nice mid 90's defender (unless mid 90's defenders had 3.9's from the factory)..then a number plate swop ....proveing how long some one has owned a car isnt a good bassis to buy one on is it ....if the white defender we are looking at isnt stolen where did it apear from ? ....plus if it did go for a vic check the fact it hasnt got a 88" chassis and different axles and gearbox and engine means it would fail the points system .......

there are loads of defender projects out there that arent dodgy ive built a few for people of every different configuration ,thats the beauty of landys ,series and defenders interchange bodywork wise and you can just bolt in disco ,rrc running gear ,there are lots of landys stolen but there mostly the parts you buy

So... the parts bought for this one aren't stolen because...?

and the fact that it is registered as a Series 3 despite not having any series 3 bits on it makes it ok because...?

i dont know that they arent, you dont know they are ,isnt it pointless ,there are alot of legitimate hybrids out there,5 or more years ago it was very popular to build vehicles especially series into defs even if you didnt get tax free plate,at least its modified and not just a number plate swap, theres something about some of these ebay threads that smells of ****iness

so you know for sure they are stolen parts then?
innocent till proven guilty.
biggest mechano kit going and the bleedin lynchmob come out of the woodwork because someone has the ability to modify something:rolleyes:

I don't... but the fact that he won't reply to my simple message asking if he has any copies of the receipts for the parts purchased (as the listing states all parts were purchased ligit.) doesn't help.

Second point still stands. Fair enough if someone took a series, heavily modified it and ended up with something which was boarderline - but what we have hear is something on a Series plate which, as far as i can tell, doesn't contain any series parts. I thought the general rule was you went with the vehicle the chassis came from on these kinda hybrids...

surely nearly every fender goin has mods done to it none of which can be proven where they came from? breakers yard scrapped vehicles, fleabay etc etc

axles get swapped all the time as does engines, body panels interiors doesnt mean there then not legit

What would be the benefit of keeping it on an 1982 plate when it should probably be on the defender's 1996 plate? I suppose one explanation is that the '96 reg is from a stolen car. No doubt there are other explanations.

I was going to say my father in law bought a defender with a 3.9 engine that was on a G reg and that was built by famous four
