In the recent months ive found myself borrowing my mates l200 more and more to move stuff about and its got me thinking that landrover should take a look into remodeling the Rangerover to make a pickup veriant
With the increasing amount of pickups on the road im suprised they havent i meen it wouldnt even be that much of a big job to redesign the existing l322
longer boot space and a removeable back box (like most of the pickups already out there)
Im i on my own with this or does anyone else think it would be a good idea?

I nearly had a pick built for me by my local landy specialist. I wanted either a classic rangie or disco based pick up to tow a 5th wheeler. He suggested using a 110 chassis and disco running gear and body parts, 300TDi engine 5 speed manual gearbox. Great, I hear you cry. But alas no. The insurance companies completely poo poo-ed the idea. Some stupid premium that could only be described as a **** take.
So, the idea got shelved, and I thought I would go for a l200 but once again the insurance industry decided they did not want to insure me to drive it so that put paid to that. I have about 18 years ncb, clean licence, lots of eperience. Current insurance on my p38 diesel is £219 fully comp, protected NCB the lot.
So, yes, I think it would be a good idea for land rover to produce a pick up rangie (or disco). Bearing in mind thye are now owned by Tata that could be on the cards.

I've seen plenty of defenders/series with pick-up type rears. Thats what you want for a workhorse. RR's are supposed to be luxury vehicles not working vehicles. I don't think LR would consider it for a moment as an official model as it doesn't sit well with their marketing at all.

I've seen lots of home made RR pick ups over the years and they look home made and a bit crap to be blunt.
Once you've gone to all the effort it's value is probably less than the original vehicle.
:)

just seen a video of a rrc pickup [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65qsX34FdYo&feature=related"]‪Britpart Range Rover V8 howling!!‬‏ - YouTube[/nomedia] now its britpart but its still relivant

Looking at that LongRanger site I must say that I'm impressed. I firmly believe that any bobtailed Land Rover should be put to rest and it's owner/engineer taken care of too. But those Discos actually look very nice.
