A bit more responsive OP would help- this is played out in slow motion.

hi,
thanks for all the help. wife called the AA, he said it is the starter motor and it started after hitting it with a hammer, however i am not convinced as the same has occured before but has always started after a few attempts. i have changed the battery in the fob as kindly suggested and as yet all seems ok, wife has just gone to work in it so i will be waiting for a call in the morning!! thanks again for your help. sorry about delay in replying but i am emergency gas engineer this week and got called out just at wrong moment.

looks like i was wrong. i got stuck this time, again no clicks or anything when turning ignition key, but i was prepared this time so i got my hammer and administered a firm technical knock to the starter motor and re- tried the ignition- nothing so i put it in gear and rocked it back and forward and re-tried again, hey presto, it started. so i have just ordered a new starter motor from mailorder 4x4-any thoughts?, anyway, next problem , are they easy to fit? i've got a hammer and adjustable spanner!!

Pretty straightforward top fix... all that has happened is that the brushes have worn down and are getting a little stuck without making a good connection on the core. Replacement brushes are pennies and once out of the vehicle replacing them takes about twenty minutes. Cheaper than a new starter thats for damn sure!

just fitted new starter motor (bearmach packaging ). tried it a few times and was fine but then it done the same, turn ignition and nothing , no clicks just normal lights. im now thinking ignition relay, is this likely and if so anyone know where it is ?
