Roof not leaking?

I have a 52 plate TD5. ...........Yes I have read MANY other threads and some brilliant guides on leaking sun roofs. I have two sun roofs and have stripped the full head lining out. I have hosed the roof for over an hour and cannot see any evidence of leaking, yet after a downpour I get water out from the seat belts and the occasional drip from the front sun roof winder. It tends not to happen during driving but when I start off after being parked up. I park on flat ground.

I have blasted water at the windscreen seals and still nothing..........except I have now found water in the passenger foot well. Could this somehow travel up and back to the seatbelts and winder....doesn't seam likely.

The drain tubes are clear (no back pressure when I blow into them) no evidence of the drain cups being cracked or repaired and the sealant appear OK. There is no staining or rusting anywhere around the sun roofs. I'm at the point of stripping them and resealing them, but don't want to disturb them to fix what isn't broken.

Really cheesed off now as I thought my efforts would have been rewarded with evidence of a leak.

Any ideas????

Been here myself same symtons same car and year.
you may need to take sunroof right out, and reseal it to the car roof quiet a job or just run round it with the silo gun every 6 mths. as for windscreen not leaking id bet some money it is again run the silo gun round it.
As for the hose pipe waste of time never leakes, always when stood for a while shower or storm.
get some wide tape and tape up sunroof properly that will prove one point

Thanks for the reply. Since I made the post, I thought, ah what the hell, do the job properly.

Since I already had the whole head lining out I decided to strip both roofs out too. I resealed the silly drain cups and also the plastic surround to the roof. I even sealed around the winders, although their design is such that water can pass down the sides of the spindle and the base has gaps around it anyway!

If I still have a leak next wet spell, I will be as sure as I can be that it's not the sun roofs. I even cleaned the glass to rubber surface and smeared it with vaseline to allow it to close smoothly.

Only time will tell

Would that cause the water to leak from the seat belts and sun roof winder?:confused2:

how about roof rail's as i've seen these leak b4 allowing water to run arround the inside of the roof

I blasted them up close with the hose, no sign of a drip and no evidence of any stains or corrosion. Same goes for the roof windows.

I tried it all roof rails the lot and it all came down to leaking screen and sunroof to roof seal.
Water would come from all sorts of places drove me nuts at first, thinking just the same things how the hell has it got there but it do.
Vasaline on the rubbers done that one

Well............we've had pretty steady rain for a couple of days now...no sign of a leak at the moment:bounce:

I know this thread is a bit outdated but I'm guessing it worked since there was no follow up to this.

I too am having the same problem, the driver's seat got somewhat flooded this evening when I pulled off and dabbed the brakes, water came shooting down the passenger side door pillar across the belt and onto the seat, and it wasn't a small amount either - I was parked facing up hill, I'm guessing the only sure fix for this it to take the sun roof out and reseal it!? - only happened once before and then water came from the passenger side sun visor bracket.

How does one go about removing the built-in dvd system on the metropolis

I don't have an answer I'm afraid, but mine (1999 TD5) does exactly the same thing. Just occasionally....maybe only 2 or 3 times a year.......I get water dripping from the sunroof winder or emerging from the drivers side seatbelt.

The only think it may be connected to how it is parked during heavy rain. ie nose up or down, but other than that??????????

the drain holes are at the front so if you park on an incline then the drip tray will fill up a bit if there's water getting by the seals.. but I think the OP already know this.

Hi guys, I have just fixed mine. Leak came from passenger visor. Removed visors, s/r winder, plastic panel, grab handles and passenger side a pillar trim. Managed to prise head lining down enough to see that the drain tube had come off.

On closer inspection I noticed that the plastic tube from the drain tray had actually sheared off inside the rubber tube, so pushed a smaller tube into both ends and so far so good.

What I want to know is how come when I blasted the roof with the hose the wife saw a constant stream running through the tube but no sign of water splashing around the roof space.

This might be a stupid question - BUT:behindsofa: Is the water supposed to gain access because of some sort of LR alien thinking that if you can't seal it then get rid of it safely?

I'm in a similar position:

Bought '03 TD5 3 weeks ago. Front sunroof seamed to leak. Followed blow-by-blow instructions on headlining removal (Thanks for the great help on this and other forums!).

Front plastic collectors not broken but slight leak from degraded glue. Tried "Flashband" (self adhesive flahibg strip for house roofs) but didn't work. Used araldite (with a bit of fibre glass tissue for good measure). passed the watering can test with flying colours. Refitted headlining thinking I had solved the problem, only to get drips from sunroof handle and top of passenger side A-post.

Now taken headlining out again, and will use the car without it so I can observe for the next couple of weeks. (now it will be the start of the drought knowing my luck!).

I will report back later.

I have an '04 TD5 ES. I had a lot of drips which appeared to be coming through the openings for the seat belts (both sides). I followed the helpful guides on here and removed the headlining. Whilst sat inside I got a friend to hose the roof down. I couldn't see any water ingress at all! All the drain pipes were clear and connected securely. Eventually I could hear a bubbling noise but still no sign of water. My friend then pointed out that the front seals of the roof rails were bubbling! I removed the roof bars (two nuts on each from inside the roof) These nuts were not even tight! So rails off, cleaned up and re-fitted with a little sealant for good measure. Problem sorted.

Had the same problem on my G4 bars, now sealed and no more problem as yet:clap2:
