Been working on my 2003 Disco, carried out loads of work and must have upset something as I now have a strong vibration that I can feel in the steering wheel but only between 30mph & 40 mph.

Its a high frequency vibration and its very strong in the steering wheel, I have done several jobs on her in the past month as listed below.

I have checked both the front & rear Props and they feel fine, no play and no roughness in them.

Work done over the past month.

New Engine Mounts (Land Rover)
New Gearbox Mounts (Land Rover)
New Steering Damper (Bilstein B6 Gas)
Discs all 4 corners (Paddocks, drilled & slotted)
Pads all 4 corners
Polybush Kit (Britpart)
Brake Pipes all 4 corners
R380 (Ashcrofts)
L230 (Ashvrofts)

I must have upset something, either that or when they road tested the hand brake and yanked it on when the Disco was moving, maybe they bent something.

Track & balance done today, but made no difference.

Any suggestions welcome.

Checked the Wheel bearing the best we can, but can't find any play. It feels like the prop shaft at the front but we have removed it and can't find anything up with it.

On another car years ago I had vibes from the steering wheel, it turned out to be an iffy uj on the steering coupling, I could only feel the play after it was removed from the car and held in a vice and twisted not much just a fell mil but that was the cause of the vibration and it only showed up after fitting stiffer springs and dampers.

Thanks for the info, it was worth a try but yet again I've run into a dead end. Cant feel any play in the linkage, ran several tests but no play can be found.

id go back and see who ever road tested it with a handbrake turn, they arnt normal hand brakes they lock the trans box ..

pull handbrake on is only a problem in that you are locking one side of a diff there is a chance front prop could turn backwards and likewise at the wheels, similar effect to towing vehicle of in too higher gear one wheel will go backwards other forwards, hope you didnt change transmission for vibration at wheels,if you have shaft poking out of top front t/box for diff lock turn it clockwise and run in diff lock with front prop off ,modern wheel brgs dont allways show play as old type did esiest way to check is by removing pads and spinning wheel ,check steering centralised ie pin in drop arm box location with wheels straight and play in box by rocking input steering shaft just before box with wheels straight, steering knuckle ball joints,

James, thank you, as per usual you hit the nail on the head.

Splines were seized, see attached photos.

Thanks again.
