Hello landyzone!
I've been reading about overlanding and general landying in here for a couple of weeks now, just to get some general info. However, despite the fact that i would love to take a 110" 300 tdi half around the world, my dream car at the moment is the TDV6 Discovery 4. Then, today i saw that the new Range Rover is available with a new 4.4 TDV8 and an 8 speed gearbox... drooool!
Now, does anyone know if there is any plans to introduce this to the disco line? That would be amazing!

Regards
Kristoffer, Denmark.

Yeah, i know about the petrol one, but getting a disco is money out already - dont wanna think about running a petrol V8!:p
But i guess we'll just have to wait and see.. BTW, what makes you think it wont make it to the disco? im not that much into landy history:)

Its about keeping the premium brand image.

You have the Defender which is the utility model.

Then you have the Freelander which is the yummy mummies!!

Then the Discovery, a level of premium but if they gave it the V8 diesel then it would head into the Range Rover market which they don't want as it would hit sales of the Range Rover!

Then you have the 3 Range Rover models which are the premium stuff that are aimed at the posh schools and footballers! the Evoque being the latest "baby" Range Rover, closely followed with the Sport as the middle placed model that you can seriously spec up with the V8 Diesel and the Supercharged models and the top of the range full fat Range Rover that can cost up to £100K!!

So why would someone pay that for the full fat one with the V8 Diesel when they could have the Discovery for half the price with this engine? They wouldn't so RR sales would plummit! :drum:

Ah yes, the wonders of branding and PR.. yay:p
Well, seems like one will have to wait for a TDV10 for the RR then;)
Besides, there seems to be alot more fun in a 300 tdi defender you have to service every 5000 miles... 300 tdi's is just hard to come by in denmark :(

The 4.4 TDV8 will never be seen in Discovery sadly. I tried this with Special Vehicles a while back.
What I tried to order was a 3.6 TDV8 in a Discovery 4, all technically possible since it was done in the RRS TDV8.
However, SVO actually said if I had been 6 months earlier they would have done it but that there was not now time due to the engine going end of life on the grounds of emissions. No problem says I, I'll take the 4.4 instead.
Sadly the 4.4 is a taller engine and will not physically fit in unmodified bodywork, hence why it is no longer an option on the Range Rover Sport. I positively know this cos I asked them to re-measure it twice. :(
All a bit of a shame really. Tis a bostin motor.
