Hi all, i'm new and i'm not too good with jargon, but i'm hoping you can help... (and i'm hoping i'm in the right place this time)

my freelander is using way too much diesel and i dont know why or how to problem solve it as i'm far from mechanically minded.
Its costing me over 40p per mile (we worked out there abouts) and i drive very carefully, i dont belt it around or anything and its mostly town driving i do, 20-40 mins trips.
i'v replaced the air filter, i'm about to change the oil and filter but i cant see that making much of a difference??
the car's in damn near perfect condition but i have no service history on it, apart from that the last owner replaced the exhaust and her brother worked at quick fit.

I cant say as there are any noises or other faults i have noticed and i'm not even sure if this is about right for this particular motor???

Please help.

Thanks all, Linzi

Driving style is one of the major factors as well. The trick is to keep the revs down, change gear at low revs and try to stay in the highest gear possible without labouring the engine.

If you haven't had it serviced recently, it may be a good idea to get it booked in.

:cheer2:lol thanks people...

yes its the 2ltr L series Di

I pay around £1.40 p/ltr for the diesel, i'v done around 450 miles on £85 worth of fuel or there abouts.
I'v changed the air filter, will change the oil filter and oil and do an engine flush this wk end but all else *seems* fine and it doesn't even have air con for me to blame

although i do have a couple of bangs which i think is the rear diff's poss!!

people, please bear in mind, i'm having a go at the mechanical side, but i am a bird and far from mechanically minded haha, but i'm trying
:cheer2:
