Land Rover TD5 Power upgrade??

Have just bought a MY05 Land Rover Defender TD5 commercial.
Used for Business.

Just done first long tow with 1 tonne trailer + 1.5 tonnes of livestock!!

A bit dissapointed with lack of POWER.

Are there any LR approved Chips or power upgrades available and if so will it help?

It simply depends on how much power you want and where you live. I have a 90 TD5 with a 'power module' which is simple to fit, goes under the seat and needs a power and an earth connection and then you connect up to the wires to the injectors. It's an easy DIY job but installers (in my experience) usually solder the joints to the injectors. You can get one sent in the mail. That will give you about 15 - 25bhp extra. Then you could add a bigger intercooler which will give approx. the same again, and may be best if someone installed it. Both are designed to give more fuel and air charge. Cooler air is denser, plus more fuel, more go. There's a wealth of info available. I got mine done at Allisport, near Gloucester (speak to Andrew, tell him Eddie sent you, you might get a cup of tea) or there's Jeremy Fearn, just do a search and you won't know where to start, or look through Land Rover mags. There's also re-mapping of the engine management, but never had it done, JF does it. Just beware that some mods (if not all) may invalidate the warranty.

I can do a propper serial downloadon your TD5 to increase performance and driveability.
I also do some work for a Landrover main angent near me, and i have used there T4 test book to see if the tune was detected, and NO the main dealer carnt tell ive even tuned it


Re intercooler i would not recomend it as your defender will most defenetly be under warranty and fitting a large cooler will VOID it

Stick to a propper remap, and NOT a addon box that involves wireing

I had my previous Defender TD5 remapped and bigger intercooler fitted by Jeremy Fearn and it was a MASSIVE improvement especially as i used it for towing a fair bit

Performance was very good you wont belive how well it pulled , made it a blast to drive and improved the fuel economy

I would recomend Jeremy he is down to earth and very helpfull Jeremy J Fearn Intercoolers, motor engineers and 4X4 specialists

Replaced the landie with a New 2.4 TDCI now and love the vehicle specialy 6 speed box but miss the perfomance of the tuned TD5

I have a w reg TD5 with full width intercooler and a TD5alive remap and its mint. performance is much better, if you put your hoof down it certainly moves, but it also improves the economy as the turbo opens sooner so when ur doing a long run on the motorway the turbo isnt engaging all the time in higher revs! depends how fast you drive on the motorway though.
