Lol,

PAS Fail,
Brake pipes corroded Fail,
Fuel tank Fail,
Pedal Excessive travel - Wheel bearing?

I would go elsewhere because its obviously not a landy friendly garage. I know a few but are miles from you. Still wouldn't pass unless safe BUT would give you 5 days to sort it all out free retest no probs

So the reality is you need a new PAS box Pump or find leaking pipe and fix,

You need a new fuel tank/find leak fix,

You need to make up some brake pipes (not too difficult TBH) I did mine front to back, and rear axle pipe no probs,

NSF Hub play Wheelbearing (would explain the long travel brake pedal) or Swivel,

Not too bad get stuck in could be done in a couple of days if you pushed hard!

Thanks for your help Jai, what are these garages called that you might reccomend? The place i went to call themselves land rover specialists because the owner has a series 1 i think. At the same time they are apparently Volvo, Saab, VW and Audi specialists (maybe more as well!!) Won't ever be going back there again.

LRJ Milehams, a car place near to us will make up pipes cheaply for you while you wait. Take in the old ones and replace the old ones with the new ones. If you want help with simple stuff then you are welcome to come over to the house and we'll chip in. Don't get me wrong... I am no mechanice but most of what you detail seems pretty straightforward and I do have the time... unlike many of the guys on here.

Anyhow the offer stands... just let me know if we can be of any help.

Oh and as a footnote: The Garage that Jai uses for his MOT; and the same one that I used last time... is bloody brilliant. They actually suggested to me tat I wait outside for a retest and then supplied the necessary bulbs and bits to fix the problems that it had failed on: 2 hours no messing and a good old fashioned bloke who both knew his stuff and was sympathetic to Land Rovers and all manner of classic motors!

Thanks Chris! I will have a look tomorrow when I get back from work and decide what to do from there. Better get some sleep now .. Thanks to all for offers + suggestions

Jack

Just a quick note regarding a refusal to carry out an MOT.

If there is any Mud, dirt, road grime or any other foriegn substance that inhibits my view of the mechanical parts and/or the body and chassis I can refuse to carry out the MOT and charge for it. Even if the seat are too dirty or thick mud on the inside near the peddles is enough to refuse it.

Think yourself lucky you dont do HGV tests. They have to be washed completely clean to allow full visual inspection of all testable components and the body and chassis in their entirety. A white board is placed under the vehicle and any oil drips evident will also result in a failier notice issued.

We have it easy!

BTW I used to be an MOT tester. What some landies get passed on an MOT inspection would still result in the vehicle being refused the right to be on the road if the VOSA guys have a quick look.

MOT should be the MINIMUM standard you are working to!

And if you are offroading your vehicle, 12000 mile service items should become DAILY CHECKS.

Hey Ryder I haven't forgottern you and these bits I have just been so unbelievably busy and to make matters worse some c**t broke all the handles on the garages so i cant actually get in there yet.

Once you get a new number let me know and I'll give you a call and sort something out for this weekend.

Jack, Brake pipes are fairly cheap and easy to replace... they just screw into the callipers and then you need to bleed the system. You can get the pipes made up by a local garage. Bennington LR centre round by Stevenage will prob do them cheap. I can help if im off anytime next week. With the rest... i haven't got a clue! :D I still need to do my CV joint and service my ball joints, wont get done next week and now more likely wont be able to come next week as need to save any spare cash for a new business venture....
