firstly does the sender unit filter the fuel before the sediment bowl gets it all and if i just undo the sender unit retainer can i drop the tank without moving the sender to much as i dont fancy breaking the pipes
any help apreciated
thanks dave

thats a worse sentence than i usually produce, you have to remove the pipes from sender before dropping tank as well as tow bar bracket supports on chassis

No the sender does not do any filtering at all. I just did this last week, the pipes on the sender were easy enough to get off as was the wiring. The problem is that the sender is attached to the tank with a large plastic ring, sort of like a pickling jar outer ring, and the fuel lines are only just above the ring, so as the ring come up its fouls the fuel pipes. I suppose there is just a chance that as you unscrew the fuel sender if you lifted it up at the same time it might be possible to undo it without removing the fuel lines. At least as you can get to the sender from above, you can try to unscrew it before you get going with the tank itself!

If you chop the fuel lines you can remove remaining tubing from the sender unit with a knife cutting length ways, piece of piddle :)

cheers for the info people i didnt fancy undoing the fuel pipes as they look like they are ready to snap and dont want to have to replace the pipe work.if i cut the fuel pipes can i extend and rejoin them to the sender unit and if so what will i need (on my arse so looking to do it for next to nowt)

i had a quick look and i have the metal elbows and the pipes conect with olive and nut .the fuel pipe has fitted end .if i cut it i cant piece it back together without slowing fuel flow or is there another way to do it. i may seam thick but dont want to leave myself needing a new sender unit

I dropped my tank with the sender unit connected, it's a bit of a fiddle and takes two people but it will come out and leave the sender dangling.

Yes tow bar arms have to come off and I also dropped the ARB.

I used a trolley jack to take the weight as it's heavy, the helper guides the sender out or in while you lower the jack and wiggle the tank as required.

It went back pretty easy too.
