Strange letter from the DVLA - still no log book

so basic's are its either a ringer or pretending to be tax excempt ...(same thing really) ..how did he not handle a chassis change correctly normally if you dont tell them they wont know it has had one at a change of owner is it the original fuel type ?.ie i was it a petrol with a diesel in it ? ...
 
12 Months ago last January i wrote my disco of class c insurance had the log book back but i taxed it first then a couple of months later moted it and forgot about the VIC to get it checked i hadnt repaired it with stolen parts or cut and shunt,but i could not get a log book before i had it tested but i could of sold it as roadworthy.Test was £45 and took 30 mins.

Too young for tax exempt; late nineties (the car, not me). Could be ringer or clone but the DVLA and myself can't find any evidence to support that. I think it was just a badly handled chassis swap - maybe a second hand chassis.

Either way as far as I can tell it's legal, not marked as stolen, just not legal to drive it, Oh well.

I'm taking it to the local DVLA office in a week or so to verify the numbers; although they have allready said, if the physical numbers on the vehicle are what I told the DVLA it's going to need an IVA, new VIN and a non age related plate (Q plate :doh:).
 
when you bought it what did the description say you should be able to get your money back of the seller if not as described

Not much luck, think I'll need to take a £3000 loss on this one:doh:

I met with the local DVLA office a few weeks ago for them to check the numbers. The upshot is the car is not stolen (I have a police report to prove it) but there is an issue with the identity and the DVLA want to re-register it.

I have been given a new VIN for it, the LA says I need to get it stamped and taken to the local VOSA office for inspection. Now this is the problem, I have contacted VOSA who say for various reasons (lack of proof that I built the car, no photos, no receipts for major components etc) the vehicle will need a [FONT=&quot]N1 "Class R" ESVA test[/FONT]. So in addition to the £600 Basic IVA test the vehicle will need to be taken to an independant test laboratory where not only do they check the vehicle is built to a safe standard but all the components are up to EC standards. VOSA say this will easily cost more than the car is worth.

So at the moment it's in my garage collecting dust while I look for another car. I'll probably mix and match the best bits of both vehicles; doors, wings and so on to get a good vehicle. I'll then be left over with an enormous supply of spares:)

I'm not saying or even thinking it, but:

Though about buying another VIN off fleabay? You still can swap the VINs...
