Today I found out that my vibration damper has gone. If you look at it from above, there's a lot of axial movement. I always though this was OK but I had the chance to look at another DSE today and I discovered that they are not supposed to have all that free movement

How does it go bad? Can it be something simple, like unproper torque ?
Also, I found out that the same part, sold for the BMWs, costs significantly less. Can someone confirm if it is the same part, because looking at the catalogues, it certainly looks like the same.

The damper is in two parts, and they bond goes between them. This happened to mine, but after replacing it I didn't notice much difference.

I got one for a BMW 525 from Euro Car parts for £60.
