A surprisingly large percentage of people who purchase SUV type cars go for 2wd versions because they like the style and driving position but have no requirement for 4wd. Also a 2wd is going to have better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions so that improves the average across the entire LR range for to bring them down to EU targets.
