hi guys need a bit of help not used mater for a couple of days started it up today and the engine runs but the fan and the altinator and the bottom pully dont turn round also checked the rad and the water is frozen forgot to put anti freeze in any help would be nice

also im ready for the **** taking

If you can, garage it and warm gently with a sump heater or fan heater and pray. Be prepared for a burst radiator and popped core plugs. You may have buggered the head gasket or cracked the block.
Or you might be very lucky.....

Would definitely expect to have to replace core plugs for that, if it really is frozen solid, as said you want to slowly defrost it to reduce the 'shock' of the change in state to the block.

But at least you'll never forget antifreeze again!

It's a bit odd that the bottom pulley don't rotate - it's keyed to the crankshaft.

if the water pump is frozen and the belt is a little slack or worn it would spin on the crank, also it must be slack as it drives the alternater aswell. but you say the bottom pully doesnt turn unless you mean power steering, 1 for crank, 1 for water pump, 1 for alternator, so how many pulleys are there?.

You'd better have another look, the crank puley probably is going round, if not then you've sheared the key in the pulley or broken the crank.
I've known marine versions of these engines froze solid all winter and still go again in the spring, but watch out for water leaks when she warms up.

Bit of a sidetrack - but do you have any further details of marine versions? I own a canal boat and will be having a 2.25d going spare soon.......

The 1.5D is popular in canal boats, which is the same motor as was in the morris oxford and a couple others, it was called the captain engine in marine guise (theres also a rare high output version called the tempest).
A larger version was also made in 2.25 and 2.5 and a couple other odd sizes known as the commadore engine.
The engines are very similar, differences being in the injector pump and injectors and the flywheel.
I suspect your canal boat is the 1.5 in which case the landy engine int much use to you (unless its the tempest version), the bellhousing might fit but everything else is diffo.

Ah, I have a pretty knackered Mitsubishi 3-pot at the moment and just thought it might be worth looking into if it'll happily sit at low revs - even though there's pretty much no way my gearbox would fit - it just lit a bulb above my head momentarily! Have already been told that marine versions of static diesel (generator) engines usually spin the other way for some odd reason anyway.

Actually - if the 1.5D you refer to is the "BMC 1.5" (would make sense thinking about it....) then yeah, that is a popular one.

Anyways, I'll stop my hijack - thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info I need to go to spec savers I had a mate from work come round who has his own dragster and in the light of day the bottom pully was spinning the water pump had frozen we slowly defrosted the pump engine and rad with hot water drained it off a bit and topped up with anti freeze. Oxides someone must love me because everything seems to be fine and its running at normal temp and no leaks PHEW.
also found a new way of warming the inside on a cold morning 10 mins with a camping heater it was toasty warm at 5am this morning and the window defrosted
and again cheers guys and a MERRY CHRISTMAS

Glad it all worked out OK - you sometimes get away with a frozen engine, especially if the coolant level is a bit low. So, lots of antifreeze and you'll be fine for the rest of the winter. The camping heater's a good idea, just as long as your fuel system is well sealed!
Happy Yule!
