Hippo up in smoke!!

Hi was pulling an empty trailer yesterday when I began to here a whizzing sound from engine when accelerating.

Shortly after smoke began bellowing from exhaust, I stopped immediately and turned off engine to my horror engine kept running smoke was every where could hardly see car standing next to it grey in colour.

Engine stopped after 5 minutes and empting the contents of coolant out of the expansion tank.

Noticed some oil on road which had obviously came out exhaust.

Hippo now towed back home.

Does anyone have any ideas what has happened here.

turbo oil seal gone - injested its own oil. nice vids on yutube showing similar.

I'd say that was an ex-Hippo now.

only way to stop engine is to stall it. okay for a manual, but if you have auto, would have to squeeze top intercooler hose.

now that would take some balls if the engine is revving full tilt !

True OP, trouble is by the time it flames out you may need a new set of pistons anyway due to the heat damage to their faces. Probably cheaper to ge a recon lump and bung in.
