I'd like to inspect and replace if neccessary the drive belt on my td4, The haynes manual says undue 3 bolts and remove the splash guard in the wheel arch. However I can't find 3 bolts, but there is a load of other screws and push in plugs. The screws on the wheel arch are very tight; do all these have to be unscrewed?

Any advice on this would be appreciated. I have done some work on my freelander on the brakes/pads/discs but not the engine so far, and I can do basic stuff when I know what I am doing.

thanks

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm. I think you'll find its the small splash guard at the bottom their referring too, not the the whole inside one. If you look up at it you will see the three bolts fitting vertically into the chassis member, where the splash guard turns out at ninety degrees.

thanks for replying. quite a while ago I know. Had to have the bottom pulley replaced as very noisy so the garage did the belts as well. The garage had a hard time getting the bottom pulley off, so its probably a good job I didn't try it. However I now have to consider renewing the power steering pump so the splash guard will have to come off again.
thanks again
Malcolm:)
