Pheasant Pen Steps LARA Voluntary Restraint signs

I blame folk who don't give a **** driving cheap discos*. Don't care if they trash it, it gets crushed or a monkeys about any collateral damage to the lanes.
(*based on a pet theory and a sample size of 3 tw@s in pre '96 discos wearing rigger boots and camo troos.)
 
No water now, a trench was dug by someone (;)) and the water drained out. It should be easer to do the repair when we get permission to do it.
 
I suppose the thing we seem to be missing here is that greenlaning, no matter how considerate you are, causes some level of damage to the countryside you're greenlaning through. Much as hiking causes some level of damage as well!

I don't think the issue is that we cause damage by greenlaning in so much as the amount of damage we cause and having a level of thoughtfulness about that damage.

Now I'm lucky, I live next to Salisbury Plain and the MOD don't give a monkies what their landrovers, trucks, tanks and high explosives do to that particular patch of countryside so there's plenty of completely toasted tank tracks to play in, and anyway signs entitled "Do not stray from carriageway - unexploded military ordinance - it will kill you!" tend to put you off going off the rights of way that are in good condition!

Actually they do. They are only allowed to have a certain percentage of the plain as tracks. If the percentage is exceeded due to people starting new tracks around old tracks a track from somewhere has to be removed to bring the percentage back in line.
 
The Voluntary Restraint on the Pheasant Pen Steps has now ended, but it would be better if people stayed off of it till we get permission to do the work. Waiting for the council to give permission. A trench has been dug to drain the water hole and has dried the area up quite a bit.

As for the Wayfarer, still waiting for the council to fill the hole. There was a disco stuck in the hole for a week!! But if coming down from the sumit and it is dry. You can drive around the hole, the council are happy with people doing this.

i have big boots, and camo trousers! and i've just bought a pre '96 disco! but i'm not like the rest!

i think so! i'm new to this whole thing, only got my disco last week! just getting rid of my 200tdi defender.

and only just started greenlaning
 
pheasant steps is pretty much unpassable now without good winch. as my friend found the other day as he was sat in the hole for about 4 hours awaiting recovery.. would definately stear clear for a while...
 
I agree, recently we turned right prior to the steps, and was told by a group of bikers that there was a group of 4x4's in all sorts of problems there. I'd already done my homework and knew they were a problem so altered our route accordingly.
 
i was there earlier i the year, it was messy but passable.

its just that area next to the hole (which didnt look used) that was difficult. the trench that was dug had widened into a small guly.

wa easily driveable with good ground under neath. i was there when it was frozen which didnt help.

Dear Mr Widget,

The guy nearest the stuck Disco, in the camo, is not even a Land Rover owner.

So really, he was possibly the "good samaritan" rescuing the stuck Disco with his Land Cruiser, seen behind.

As it happens Gra, it was Rob in the defender who recovered Pauls disco with his winch as he had already gotten past the hole. Anyway, I don't take any of this mindless banter to heart mate as we all know it works the other way around too ;)
